This class is designed for dog/handler teams who already have a solid foundation of basic obedience. The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to recognize dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The CGC stresses responsible dog ownership for owners as well as basic training and good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10 step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. 

Mixed breed dogs, unregistered purebreds, and AKC registered dogs are all welcome to participate. Please note that the test must be taken without “training tools” such as remote collars, pinch collars, head halters, no-pull harnesses, or treats. For this CGC Prep Class, Clarice has developed valuable on-line content as well as in-person sessions. The schedule is as follows:

The CGC Test will be held at Flying Colors on February 8, 2019 starting at 2:00 pm. Time slots will be assigned to teams who register for the test. Teams who have attended the prep class may take the test free of charge. Teams who have not taken the Flying Colors Prep class will have a testing fee of $20. If your dog passes the test and you wish to have a Canine Good Citizen certificate, you can order it directly from the AKC for $10.

This class is designed for dog/handler teams who have completed the Family Friendly or Rock Star programs and have a solid foundation of basic obedience. This class will not certify your dog for therapy work, but will help to prepare you and your dog for the therapy dog evaluation. 

The focus of this class is fading out training tools (as such tools will not be allowed in the evaluation or during therapy visits), practicing in the real world, polishing obedience skills needed for the evaluation, and teaching new skills that will be helpful during visits.

The instructor is most familiar with the Pet Partners evaluation process, but these skills are helpful for any organization the owner may choose.
